Your Support Makes an Impact

Due to the powerful forces of Mother Nature during recent coastal storms, the Marginal Way sustained significant damage and hazardous erosion—repairs are estimated to cost nearly $3 million.

The Marginal Way Preservation Fund has committed substantial resources to this critical effort. In doing so, we aim not only to address the existing damage but to plan for the long-term resiliency of the path.

In recent years, increasingly frequent and unpredictable storms have highlighted the vulnerability of this beloved landmark. Direct exposure to harsh coastal elements has caused structural damage along the path’s foundation, requiring immediate action to ensure both safety and preservation.

Our goal is not only to repair what has been damaged but to fortify the Marginal Way against future challenges—and your support plays a critical role.

This urgent need underscores the importance of our mission and reinforces why it is essential to continue growing our Endowment Fund. The long-term sustainability of the Marginal Way depends on it.

Thanks to swift collaboration between the Town of Ogunquit, Walsh Engineering, and our dedicated community, the path has been reopened to walkers, and repair work is now underway.

An assessment by Walsh Engineering identified 31 separate repair sites along the Marginal Way. To support these repairs, the Marginal Way Preservation Fund launched the Storm Damage Repair Appeal, a campaign through which all funds raised will directly support the Town of Ogunquit in meeting the significant financial burden of restoring and securing the path’s structural integrity.

Together, we can preserve this treasured coastal path for generations to come.

In response to the Marginal Way Preservation Fund’s significant commitment to helping the Town of Ogunquit with storm damage repairs, Select Board Chair Bob Whitelaw stated:

"I sincerely thank the Marginal Way Preservation Fund and all contributors for their dedication and support. Their commitment has significantly altered the trajectory of what appeared to be a decade-long, costly endeavor for taxpayers, transforming it into an immediate action plan that enhances the Marginal Way's resilience against future storms and reduces the Town's financial liability. Thank you, Marginal Way Preservation Fund, for making this vision a reality.”
