Plaque 8 Dedication at Serenity Point
On a beautiful October fall day along the Marginal Way, the Marginal Way Preservation Fund (MWPF) hosted an intimate gathering at Serenity Point to dedicate Plaque 8—the latest addition to a cherished series honoring loved ones and celebrating lifelong memories along Ogunquit’s beloved path by the sea.
Thanks to the loyal support of the Marginal Way Preservation Fund’s community of donors, the Fund has been able to ease the financial burden on the Town of Ogunquit and its taxpayers, contributing nearly $1 million in 2025 alone to support critical storm damage repairs and ongoing maintenance along the Marginal Way. This collective generosity ensures the path remains safe, beautiful, and accessible for all who walk it.
A Meaningful Day of Remembrance and Celebration
Following the dedication ceremony, guests gathered for a warm reception graciously hosted by MWPF Board Secretary Barbara O’Leary at her home along the Marginal Way. Stories, laughter, and reflection filled the afternoon as attendees—traveling from near and far, including Arizona, New York, and Virginia—came together to share in this meaningful occasion.
A beautiful musical performance by Matthew Bourdeau added a sense of serenity and reflection, enhancing the heartfelt atmosphere of the day. Guests were also presented with a thoughtfully curated booklet featuring the stories behind each plaque inscription, offering a deeply personal glimpse into the memories and tributes that line Serenity Point.
The names inscribed on Plaque 8 were read aloud by MWPF Vice President Bill Sawyer and Board Member Nan Ramsey, marking a poignant moment of remembrance as families and friends reflected on their loved ones and the memories tied to this special place.
Stories That Span Generations
Throughout the gathering, guests shared stories of generations enjoying the Marginal Way—family walks along the coast, seaside proposals, and quiet moments of reflection overlooking the ocean. As the Fund continues to celebrate the Centennial of the Marginal Way, the ceremony offered a chance to reflect on 100 years of history, love, and connection, while looking ahead to preserving the path for the next century and beyond.
“Each plaque tells a story—of love, family, friendship, and time spent along this extraordinary coastal trail,” said Allison Ramsey, Executive Director of the Marginal Way Preservation Fund. “It is always such an honor to hear these stories and to see how deeply the Marginal Way continues to touch people’s lives.” Ramsey also emphasized the importance of archiving these cherished stories, especially during the Centennial year, to help preserve the living legacy of the Marginal Way.
MWPF Board President Charlie Hindmarsh echoed this sentiment, thanking attendees for their generosity and commitment. “By supporting the Marginal Way Preservation Fund, you are helping ensure that this extraordinary place remains protected for generations to come,” he shared. “By entrusting us with your heartfelt memories and personal connections, you help preserve both the beauty and the meaning of the Marginal Way.”
With Gratitude
The Marginal Way Preservation Fund extends its heartfelt appreciation to everyone who participated in the Plaque 8 dedication and to all who continue to support the Fund’s mission. Through this generosity, the Marginal Way remains not only a place of natural beauty, but also a living tapestry of memories, stories, and shared history.
