Why your support is vital.
The goal of the 5-year Marginal Way Preservation Fund Capital Campaign is to raise $3 million toward funding a wide variety of necessary repairs, including:
- Repair of a seriously storm-damaged steep embankment along the ocean side of the path by installing a 600 foot revetment of huge boulders and stone riprap.
- Restoration of Marginal Way's "Little Beach" and replacement of the stairs.
- Installation of retaining walls to repair and protect sensitive areas along the path.
- Improving drainage of surface water run-off to avoid erosion.
- Planting appropriate landscaping to provide habitat, beautify the path and prevent erosion; and
- Establishment of a permanent endowment fund to provide for ongoing Marginal Way maintenance, repairs and improvements to preserve this truly unique path-by-the-sea for future generations.
The Committee will also set aside a portion of the funds raised to establish a modest endowment to ensure that money is available for future upkeep.
The Marginal Way is a treasure, not only for residents of southern Maine but for the thousands of seasonal visitors who value the uniqueness of our coast. It is open to all and easily accessible to the handicapped. For many, it may be the only way to enjoy our beautiful coast.
There are many ways to help. All donations are welcome. Due to the significant size of the need, the Preservation Fund Committee has established levels of giving designed to help us reach our goal in time to ensure the Marginal Way is there for you - and future generations - whenever one wishes to visit.
For many, this coastal gateway is the experience that draws them to further explore the beauty of Maine's coast and villages.
100% of all donations go directly to the Marginal Way Preservation Fund ensuring the future of this unique resource.
